So, this week I decided to (finally) get around to canceling my netflix membership, and replaced it with a full membership at Motionbased. I wasn't going to go premium on this, but now that I'm riding 4-5 times a week and using the GPS on every ride, the 10-activity viewing limit on the free membership was starting to become an issue. So, for $5 less per month than my barely-used netflix membership, I upgraded.
Holy crap. Why didn't I do this months ago?? The map player and analyzers are the coolest things ever. :)
Take, for instance, tonight's ride. I can see exactly how fast I was going where, and match it to the elevation (which is never terribly accurate, but at least gets the uphill v. down right). I can see where I stopped, and for how long. I can see exactly where I gave up hanging onto the group and slowed down to wait for a friend to catch up to me (mile 9). I can see where I stopped and fixed my back wheel, which had gotten sideways and was rubbing on the frame for God knows how long (mile 22). I can see that my speed jumped up 3 mph after fixing this....and I can see exactly how poorly I climb even the slightest of inclines (throughout). :)
Here--see for yourself: My Thursday tempo ride
(UPDATE: If using a browser other than IE, click the Player tab rather than the Map Player. It's more friendly.)
Badass.
The really sad thing? I averaged 20 mph, and still was one of the last 3 people to come in. Damn those racers. ;)
