FMF - Workout songs

About 6 months ago, I started to get sick of the same types of songs every time I worked out. You know...strong beat, fast pace, high-energy. So I started using one playlist for everything, and that worked pretty well. Now that I have the new iPod and I've started walking on my lunch hour again these past couple weeks, I've sort of flipped the other direction. To that end, I've been weeding my workout playlist, keeping only the songs that will help me stay motivated. OPEN WIDE for a handful of those.

UPDATE: Links expired.

Black Horse and the Cherry Tree - KT Tunstall I mentioned this one last week, but posted a different track instead. I always think of Kat McPhee on her knees on American Idol when I hear the song, though. It doesn't ruin it for me, exactly, but I can't seem to break the association.

Luv Me Luv Me - Shaggy Speaking of associations, I used to work with a guy a few years ago. We were in the same training class for 8 weeks, had both moved to TX from other states (he was from New Jersey), and sort of bonded over that. One of the nicest guys I've known. Anyway, he liked to tell stories about his life back in Jersey, and one day we were sitting in the office cafeteria and he was telling us about how he was this great dancer, and he would go to clubs and have women hanging all over him. Now, I was skeptical--he was this little guy, maybe 5'6", mostly bald, glasses, a closet full of polo shirts...your classic IT geek, basically. I smiled politely and thought, "whatever, dude. And I suppose you have a hot girlfriend, too. She lives in Canada and we wouldn't know her, right?"

A few months later, we had one of those company field days, where each department puts together a team and they compete for trophies and bragging rights. When our group was between events, that Shaggy song "It Wasn't Me" came on and Jersey Geek started to dance. Oh. My. God. The stories were true. When this guy started to move, he was...god, I can't even describe it. Hot. I've never seen such a transformation in my life. If he hadn't been married with 4 kids, I might have made a move right there.

So anyway, Shaggy always makes me think of my friend Steve. I haven't talked to him in years...I changed jobs and we lost touch. I doubt he still works at the old company, since there's been a merger and some restructuring since then. But I bet he can still dance. Rawr.

Run Runaway - Slade I don't have any stories about this one. It's got a really strong beat, though, and makes it easy to keep a brisk pace.

Keep Hope Alive - The Crystal Method This song makes me think of Bring It On, or at least cheerleaders.

Whip It - Devo Another good walking song.

So, there you are. Right-click, save-as, and I'll see you Monday.
