ooh, isn't that the best kind of compliment? good for you!

hey, a question about your stats - do you use fitday to record everything (calories/water/workout stats)? i'm thinking you must be using a notebook or PDA to record your HR information. and i think i remember you saying in a past post that you use the PC version of fitday, not the online one? and (sorry to pepper you with questions) what is the number in parentheses next to the calories burned number?

please ignore my questions if you don't have time to answer. :)

eh..I always have time. :)

The food numbers come from fitday PC, and the workout numbers come from my heart rate monitor.

On my HRM, the calories burned is listed along with a percentage. According to the documentation and based on cardio theory (I guess), this is the percentage of those calories that were burned from fat. As a general rule, you burn more calories from fat during lower intensity workouts.

The number in parentheses is the calories burned that were from fat, according to the percentage given by the HRM. That stat is new this week--I explained it in Monday's (?) stats, but I put it in the extended entry.

I hadn't really paid much attention to that percentage in the past because a calorie is a calorie to me. Whether it's more likely to be burned from fat or from glycogen, it's still counteracting the calories I'm eating. The lower-intensity workouts are more efficient, but the higher-intensity ones burn more calories overall, so the fat-calories were pretty much a wash.

However, now I'm considering taking the intensity down on some of my workouts, and I wanted to see how much of an impact it would have on my fat-burning numbers. So that's why the number in parentheses.

What's interesting to me is that if the percentages are to be trusted for the last two days, I actually burned more calories from fat in the 42-minute strength session on Tuesday than I did in my 45-minute run/walk yesterday. The overall calories for yesterday were nearly double, but the fat percentage was 25% lower. It definitely makes a difference, but I'm not sure what to do with that information yet.

I have your version of starbucks girl too, and yesterday when she hollered out (AGAIN) you are really coming down *groan* I'm thinking in my head, it's only 7lbs she's seeing things.

eh.

But noticeable ways are a GREAT sign and the tape measure a better way to tell for sure. :)
