I keep smelling this smell. For the past two days, it's hit me every couple of hours, and I can't really figure out where it's coming from. I'm a little afraid it's me, but I can't imagine what on my person would smell like that.
Yesterday, it was in the master bedroom. Noah was in there watching cartoons, and I walked out of the bathroom to an odor. "What's that smell?"
"What smell?"
"You can't smell it?"
"I can't smell anything." (Noah has some allergy troubles...perennially stuffy nose.)
"You really don't smell that? It's like...hot pee."
"Nope."
I walked back into the bathroom, then back out again. There it was again. I looked around the doorway, sniffed some stuff around it. Couldn't locate it. Sniffed my hair, my clothes. All fine. WHAT WAS THAT SMELL?!
After a couple minutes, I left the room and the smell went away. I forgot about it until this morning. Then, in the car, I smelled it again. What the hell? I checked the floorboards, under the seats, even checked my breath and freshly-washed hair. It wasn't me, but I couldn't find it in the car either. Drove to work.
NOW IT'S IN MY OFFICE. It comes and goes, not always in the same room, and though the evidence suggests it's something I'm carrying with me, I can't find the source here either. I'm beginning to think I'm a wee bit insane.
So, can YOU smell it?

Funny you should mention that, because I was just doing a google on "phantom smells", and that came up. I had never heard of it before.
Right now it's looking that way...which freaks me out a little. And with the smell being sort of unpleasant, I hate to ask people in the office if they smell it, too. "Hey, does it smell like a urinal in here, or is it just me?" :)
Maybe I'll ask Rob later, if it comes up again at home.

Any chance of a cat peeing on clothes or in your house? That is one nasty hot pee smell.

oh, definitely--we have 5 cats running around the house. That's what I thought it was at first...but then I couldn't find it. *shrug*

Whewww . . . I thought I was going crazy! For the last week or so I have had the very unpleasant smell of s dirty ash tray. it is sooo bad that it makes me naucious, I get a headache and my eyes even burn.
Like you I was in bed after being fresh from the shower and I reeked! I smelled my hair, my nighty, the sheets. The smell coming from somewhere deep inside me. I'm not a smoker and never have been, However I grew up with two chain smoking parents I recognise the smell.
I too the next day was driving in my car and Wow! It hit me and I thought Ok now this is bizarre! I have now been dealing with this for almost 2 weeks and I truly reached the point where I can't function like this any longer.
I had a very bad sinus/nasal infection about 3 weeks ago and was on antibiotics and nasal spray.
My question, hopefully someone can answer this ~ Is this serious? Will it go away on it's own or do I need to seek medical help? Am I losing my mind?
I feel very alone and like I am seriously losing it. Please help. Patti
