I'm back to my body's much-loved 182. I'm getting tired of this up and down shit, but this time it's entirely a result of my bad habits so I can't complain too loudly.
Weight change this week: +1.5
Posted by Joy at April 14, 2004 09:44 AMstumbled across your site while looking for the calorie content of cadbury's mini caramel eggs! too funny!
so, a question for you (and forgive me if this has been hashed over to death): what do you think of daily weigh-ins? i know some people think they're too restrictive and make people think too much about the numbers instead of larger changes that they need to make in their life to try to live long and healthy lives. but i like it because otherwise i feel like i'm at sea. i guess this means i'm dependent...
if i'm 2 lbs. heavier after a day of heavy eating with lots of salt, etc., i know why. if i've lost 2 lbs in a day, i'm probably not drinking enough water.
thoughts?

Yeah, it's a personal thing, definitely. Everyone has their own way of doing things. Personally, I'm like you. I only record one weekly weigh-in on the site, but I step on the scale every day to see what my body is doing from day to day, and how it is responding to what I do to it.
For instance, the weigh-in before last--if I hadn't weighed the day before, I would have been upset that my light eating over the wedding weekend resulted in only a 1-lb. loss. However, since I knew I had weighed 180.5 the day before, it wasn't so hard to take. Conversely, on those weeks when I eat like crap, see wildly fluctuating numbers on the scale, and end up posting a loss on Wednesday anyway, I know I just got lucky and I need to get back to work. :)
I've also heard people say that daily weigh-ins are misleading and emotionally draining, but I guess that depends on how hung up you are on the number. Sometimes it can be frustrating in that "I was 3 lbs. lighter two days ago!" sort of way, but overall it works well for me too. I say as long as you don't run off on a chocolate binge after seeing a bad number on a daily weigh-in (or a good one, for that matter), sounds it works for you the way it does for me.
Glad you found us!
