Yeah, so remember when I was going to have chicken last night? After it took me 40 minutes to get home, it mutated into frozen pizza. I still ended up with just barely over 24 points for the day, though, so it was all fine at Casa de Joy.
At least until pumpkin carving time.
I got through all of the major carving unscathed...then I decided to show Noah something we used to do back when I was a kid. The objective was to slice just the orange part of the skin off the teeth of the pumpkin, so that it would look like it had white teeth (or yellow, anyway).
"Noah, will you get me a smooth-edged knife?"
He brings back a butter knife.
"No, I mean a sharp one."
He comes back with a fillet knife. Sigh.
"Okay, that one's a little too big, but it'll do. See, what you do is..."
I began to carefully cut the skin off one of the teeth with this 6-inch blade....
"...carefully get the blade between the outer skin and--OW!" The inevitable had happened. The knife slipped, slicing an inch-long gash in my thumb.
"See--that's why I wanted a smaller knife." I caught a look at Noah's horrified face. "but I'm okay."
Pumpkin carving time was officially over, and much bleeding and refusing to panic ensued. About an hour, a trip to the store for bandages, and 3 butterfly closures later, I was pretty sure that I wasn't going to bleed to death. (And the fact that I'm alive today is living proof!) I called Rob, who was on stand-by to dress the wound if needed, and told him his services would not be required this time, but thanks anyway.
I've gotta tell you, though. I didn't realize how much I use my left thumb. Here I was thanking God it wasn't my dominant hand, but then I tried to tie my shoes and button my pants. Ow.
I was hoping that the blood loss would show up in my weigh-in this morning, but alas, it was not to be. I've been steadily climbing since Wed, peaking at a terrifying 190 early this morning. By 7 am, it was back down to 188, though, so it may have been a fluke. I'm hoping that once I start taking pills again on Sunday, I'll shed a lot of water and be back down in the mid 180s.
Of course, my diet today has done nothing to help that. I'm at 33 points for today, and I haven't even left work yet. There's the 3rd annual Halloween Trick-or-Treating Drunken Hayride tonight, which will involve a beer or two, and possibly a margarita. I'm thinking that this will also be dinner, since I was lured in by the caramel pecan brownie after lunch. Fortunately, the HToTDH involves a lot of walking, also, so maybe I can at least cancel out the booze. We'll see.
Anyway, I don't really have anything else to prattle on about today, so everyone have a happy Halloween, and stay safe!
