Well, as Joy discussed previously, Champions Fit begain their marathon training program today. I am in the Orange group meaning that I walk/jog, but my pace is slower than 10 mins/mile. They have a daily training schedule laid out for us that when followed should prepare us to finish the Houston Marathon in about six months. I am in pretty bad shape from a running standpoint, so I'm skeptical that I'll be able to run a marathon in just 28 weeks, but I am going to try. I figure if I'm able to finish, kick ass. If not, then I should be in much better shape than I am now anyway. Considering I have a wedding coming up about 3 months later, every bit better I can get is a plus.
Each Saturday, I will give a run down of that week's group run, my time in that run, and how I feel afterward. Today was a 2 mile time trial meant to help us determine which group we should be in. Since there isn't a slower walk/run group than I'm in, I know I'm in the right place. I don't want to be in the Purple group, because I do want to work into more and more running. I didn't have a watch today, and amazingly, no one there was willing or able to give me my time. The coach that stayed back with me told me several times he didn't want to discourage me by talking about times, but he ended up just frustrating me. Judging by when Joy says she finished and her estimation of how far behind her and the rest of the walkers I was, I'm guessing I completed the 2 miles in about 32 minutes. I walked probably 60% of the time. Next week, my numbers will be more precise, but for now I'll do the best I can with the information at hand.
Distance: 2 miles.
Time: 32 minutes.
Average speed: 3.75 mph -- 16min/mile.
Walked: 18 minutes
Jogged: 14 minutes
