blegh.

I have a headache. It's not one of those skull-splitting, turn-off-all-the-lights-and-don't-talk-above-a-whisper type headaches, but more like one of those dull, throbbing things in the back of your head that slips around to the side when it's feeling adventurous. Easily knocked out with an excedrin or two...I just don't feel like taking anything right now. So I'll wallow.

Yesterday was my first go at the WATP dvds. I'm not sure what I expected, but I definitely thought it'd be more like, you know, walking. How I thought they would accomplish this with a video in my living room, I've no idea...but about halfway through the 1-mile workout I found myself thinking, "this is aerobics. This is just fucking aerobics."

Not that it was bad, mind you. They do away with all the fancy-schmancy grapevines and jumping and such, and keep it down to 4-5 different moves. For an uncoordinated dolt like me, this is an extremely good thing. I like the routines and everything...I just think that calling it walking, or assigning any kind of distance to marching in place, is sort of silly. But I guess "walk" is her gimmick, and hey--it got me to buy the DVDs, right?

Anyhoo, I did the 30 minute (2-mile) workout this morning, and felt pretty good overall. I sweat more doing this than I do walking, and my upper body gets tired during the parts with the weights. When I get to the kicking with the arms and the weights, though, the "rhythm" sector of my brain (pitifully small, anyway) just throws up its hands and says "whatever, dude". I start to look like one of those old wind-up toy soldiers when they're coming to the end of the spring. I had to stop no less than 4 times (in 2 minutes!) and figure out which arm went with which leg, and by that time the kicking part was over. I'm hoping I'll get better eventually...it's times like these that I remember why I don't dance. Ever.

I had debated when I signed up for this Champions Fit thing whether or not I would go for one of the running groups. Despite the fact that I haven't run over a block and a half for about 10 years, I sometimes think that I might enjoy a bit of running. And then I actually run for a few minutes, and all those delusions are gone. I ran for a bubble-bursting 2 minutes this morning before I came to my senses and discovered what I've known all along--I don't much care for running. I may at some point, when I'm down to a normal weight and I don't get winded as quickly, but right now it's miserable. I'm glad I signed up for the marathon training, but it's strictly walking for me, thanks.

Eating has been going pretty well the last couple days, too. I had a moment of weakness today when I smelled gravy on my way to lunch, so I ate the salisbury steak they were serving in the cafeteria (12 points, or thereabouts) even though I had planned on a turkey wrap and fruit (9 points). I'm going to have to cut back on the pork chops I'm making for dinner tonight and eat more salad, but I can have the leftover meat for lunch tomorrow so it won't be so bad. I'm really, really trying to stay under 27 points every day this week. Didn't make it yesterday, but got pretty close.

If my diet and exercise stay good through tomorrow, I figure I can get my nude weight down below 194 again, and actually post a loss at the WW meeting Saturday morning. It won't be much of a loss, but at least it will be something.
